Hey All,

I have a 1982 XS400SJ Heritage Special that is currently only firing on one cylinder. I had a shop take a look at it and they narrowed it down to a faulty coil that needed replacement. They told me that this specific year/model was Canada only and had some sort of unique coil that made it very hard to find replacement coils. Has anyone heard of this before or know what would make this bikes coils so specific?

When pulling the coils off the bike they have a stamp that says '12v cm11-55 108'
I've found ones on ebay i could order but also have access to coils from another XS400 from a few years earlier. Is there any reason why these ones wouldn't work?

The 80-82 sohc xs400 used a different ohm ignition coil than the 77-79 points bikes. They used the 3 ohm and TCI ignition 80-82 style coils on a lot of bikes even the 82-84 dohc ones. Very easy to find.

Yeah, Canada did get an odd SJ model but the coils are the same as the rest of the 80-81 electronic ignition types.

I have one of the Canadian SJs.
Only really different thing is that they have the disk brakes from an '81.

Thanks xschris - thats a relief to hear. I was worried I was going to have trouble finding parts. I'll give the other coils I have off the other xs a try later this week.

Awesome - thanks for the info, glad they're not too different! hopefully these other coils are the quick fix and i can get in a few more days of riding before the snow sets in.
