Alright, I swear this is going to be my last post about timing... I hope

Finally went back through and redid the timing (again) on my Maxim 400 by the book, got all the O marks lined up to their arrows while the T lines up with the line, but when I put the chain tensioner in, it extends out and moves the timing plate counterclockwise about 15 degrees. This doesn't move the cams with it at all. They stay lined up with their marks. If I try to turn the engine clockwise, I can sort of line it back up with the timing mark, but the engine won't turn over backwards, though it did before. I can turn it over counterclockwise. Is this "slop" normal? I feel like that mark should stay lined up after doing timing. I can post some pictures if it would make it more clear.
