On my 82 Maxim 400 my self cancel turn signal function sometimes works after turning left but almost never after turning right. Apparently manually pushing the switch will also force it cancel the turn signal. It doesn’t on mine and it’s challenging to turn the turn signal off especially while driving. I have sprayed lubricant in there. The switch does seem to have free movement but it does not consistently work. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution without having to replace the whole assembly?

I don’t even know how the self cancel work. Unlike a car the cancel works with the rotation of the steering wheel. It’s a mystery to me how these old bikes are able to self cancel anyway.

It uses a module inside the flasher with a signal from the speedo. The idea being a constant or increasing speed means you completed the turn and it can turn off the flash. It shouldn't matter the turn direction.

Here’s a diagram I downloaded. Can you point me to the “module” location. The diagram says there is a #26 Flasher Canceling Unit”. Do you think that would be the module your talking about? It’s hard to tell but it almost looks like that #26 is under the seat.
