Hi everyone, I just picked up this baby today for $100, '83 xs400 maxim. Shes ugly but she starts up and runs great. I'm gonna work towards a scrambler/tracker style and see how it goes. This is my 2nd bike. I had a '89 radian 600 but it was stolen and have been on the hunt for something I could afford and this kinda fell into my lap. Not sure if I'm gonna keep this tank yet but I'm thinking of doing a green red color shift on the tank. Not sure what color seat yet. Need to clean up the frame of stray rust and repaint, clean up and black out the motor. There's no ignition and key. It's got a toggle switch in place and some other radio shack momentary switch for the starter, lol. Nothing too crazy to work with it's just going to take some time. I'll update as I get stuff completed.

Got all the rust off the inside and outside of the tank and repainted it. I used a metal flake paint called iridium. I used 1k clear so it's still curing. Will prob leave it for a week or 2 before I wet sand and polish . I put a new ignition in as well since it just had a toggle switch. I ordered a start/kill switch control, blinkers, and tach and speedo. I need to cut the ends off the tail to weld a loop on there before I start making the seat pan. Just a bunch of little stuff really and a clean up.
