Got my maxim up and running, what do I need for maintenance?

Doing maintenance on my '83 XS400...just got it so I'm new to motorcycles! I'm a heavy duty mechanic so I understand the workings, but I don't have a manual, so I wanted to check, does anyone know the part number of the required oil filter, a air filter? I've drained the float bowls and ran through fresh gasoline, and between that, plugs, and oil, chain lune, what else would you guys recommend? Any spark plugs in particular that you have good experiences with? I usually use NGK. And last question, where can I find a decent deal on an exhaust system? Pipes and all?

And for oil, 20W50? I'm on the west coast of Canada, ad the temp rarely drops below zero or exceeds 30. What oil would you recommend?

In cold temps below 40* I would use a 10w-40 for wet clutch oil.

Seca manuals are available here for free download.
Oil: JASO MA specification (I use Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic 15W-40)
Oil filter: K&N KN-144.
Plugs: NGK DR8EIX Iridium.
Exhaust: MAC 004-1103 (Chrome) or MAC 804-1103 (Chrome header, black muffler).

Clean and repack all wheel bearings, steering bearings, and swing arm bearings.
Check/adjust valve clearances (lash).
Lube all cables.
Install inline fuel filter.
Disassemble and clean carbs.
Sync carbs.
Service brakes being sure to clean and lube the caliper slider pins.
Flush brake fluid.
Replace fuse box with modern ATC fuse box.
Clean ALL electrical connections and lube.

That should keep you busy for a few weeks...

Yea the SECA manuals from this site work for 99% of your bike, nearly identical frame and mechanics, just differently styled. Other than that just go here:

Awesome! Thanks guys bought the chrome MAC 2-1 exhaust, any idea on jet resizing?

probably have to go up a size (or maybe even two) on the mains and possibly one size on the pilots, but you'll have to experiment and figure it out, there's no one solution for jetting!
