Hi my XS 400 runs fine but when cold and I apply full choke it have extremely high RPM's around 4000 or higher. What is causing that? too much air? There is no adjustment right?
No adjustment is available for the enricher. This could mean that your idle mixture is richer than it needs to be (run the bike at idle with the enricher off for 5 minutes and then pull the plugs and look at them, if they are blackish and sooty, you have your idle mix too rich). Also, I almost never use full choke as my bike does not seem to need it, so you may have no issue at all.
I use full choke when cold starting all the time. It'll start off idling around 2500, then start increasing as it warms.when it starts getting into the 3500 range I push it into half choke which brings it back down to 2000-ish. I usually leave it there for another minute or so before turning it off with a throttle blip to attain steady idle.
I need half/full enrichener if the engine is cold and hasn't been started in some time. Once I starts I let it run for a bit to warm up before turning off enrichener. Mine tends to stall if I mess with the throttle too much before its warm- but that only takes a minute or two.
