    Charging issues, problem with stator?

Thanks, Lexi! Regular AGM battery, seems to check out well with a tester. Maybe I should try swapping to a known good battery though.

    Charging issues, problem with stator?

Thank you so much, that was extremely helpful. I went through the wiring underneath and did find a few sketchy spots. After re-soldering and redoing the wiring, the stator now seems to report reasonable numbers, both resistance and when running a dynamic voltage test. However, the bike still...

    Charging issues, problem with stator?

I got a 1977 XS400D, should probably add that to the signature or something. Both of my service manuals list 0.7 as the spec. I have eight wires total. Four white wires coming out of the stator, two green, one blue and one yellow for the field coil. Field coil seems to check out on my bike...

    Charging issues, problem with stator?

Hello everyone, After seemingly figuring out issues with my ignition, I have discovered that my bike does not really charge the battery, which is likely what was causing my ignition timing to go all over the place as the battery gets slowly discharged. I went about trying to diagnose this...

Question on the mechanical advancer/points ignition: what is this part called?

Yeah, couldn't find the single part, so I had to buy the entire advance. They are cheaper over in Germany, I had to pay a little over twice the amount here in the US! Thanks for the help, everyone! Seems to be idling much better than it did with the e-ignition, although there is a slight...

Question on the mechanical advancer/points ignition: what is this part called?

Thanks for the reply. You may be right, searching for "xs400 points cam" on eBay did show up with one for an XS650, but none for the XS400. :( I am really hoping that I won't have to buy an entire advancer for this one part since the one I have works fine and they are a bit pricey. Does anyone...

Question on the mechanical advancer/points ignition: what is this part called?

Hello! Does anyone know what the round part circled on the attached picture is called and if it is possible to source a replacement without buying an entire advance mechanism? I have a 1977 XS400D, the previous owner installed an electronic ignition that was working very poorly. I replaced it...

Timing discrepancies with Pamco/XS-Charge Electronic Ignition

Hello! I have a 1977 XS400D. Trying to install the XS-Charge ignition from MikesXS on it and I have some weird behavior. I understand that XS-Charge is a clone of a Pamco ignition system. When I time the left cylinder to fire exactly at LF with a timing light, timing light shows RT on the...

Sold / Found / Inactive - 1977-1979 BS34 Carburetor Left Side or Whole

Need a replacement left side carb for a 1977 XS400D. The entire carb assy is possibly also acceptable, but ideally just the left side with butterfly valve parts intact is fine (I can transplant the other bits). Thanks!

Is the 1978-1979 XS400 carb rebuild kit compatible with 1977 XS400D carbs?

For anyone else wondering: Niche sells the kit for 1977 here. Doesn't look too different from the other one, but it's nice to be sure.

Is the 1978-1979 XS400 carb rebuild kit compatible with 1977 XS400D carbs?

Hello! I have a potentially silly question. I recently got a 1977 XS400D. It's been tuned for performance, rejetted, has velocity stacks on it and a few other mods, but I would like to return it (close) to stock, so I am searching for stock jets. Would this kit from MikesXS for 1978-1979 XS400...
