I was having hard time starting for weeks and I found out that 6 turns out of the mixture screw solved my idle problem. My bike is SOHC and my right side has loose muffler so it running little lean on the right and little rich on the left. But, it runs on the first kick and idles perfectly.

After many tries, I've learned that my vacuum hose had some worn out clamps and my carb liked 6 turns out on the mixture screw. It runs with first kick now. Thank you for help.

Hi, I have 1980 xs400 special and I have been trying to fix my first bike. I did carb cleaning, float height, valve adjustment, new battery, new fuel, new intake boot, and new foam filter. This bike used to run semi-consistently with cracked intake boot so I changed to new boot couple days ago...

Isnt the compression suppose to be 140-170psi? I dont know if 82 maxim is different than 80 special.

I did valve adjustment yesterday and accidentally broke the threads of the valve cover bolt. I guess i over torqued it. :(

Hi, I have a question about installing a new foam into the box filter. I have cleaned out the old original foam and scraped the glue residue on the sides. My question is do I have to glue on the new foam filter? Also, do I oil the UNI foam or not? On the service manual, it says it shouldn't...
