Stone has made an tutorial fpr xs400.net about the different XS400-carbs and needle size. It's in german, but i'll think you can combine the pictures and needle size, without learning german :wink2: ...

A good tip to sychnronize the carbs with the vacuum gauges: Do it between 4000-5000 rp/m. :wink2:

On two of my xs i use both. If battery is low or bike stands a long time, i prefer to kick it on. On my new project there is only an electric starter. Because of the footpegholder. i'll hpe, the battery is alltime full. :D

Also check that the sprocket is attached securly. If it is not rightly fixed or dirt between sprocket an the hollow axle behind, than there is also an oil leak and the oil splashs around. Best test to find the leaks, is to clean the crankcase an dust it with some flour. Then make a short drip...
