lights flickered and then bike died

You may have had an overvoltage condition that fried those capacitors. Try just cutting them out.

New PAMCO electronic ignition on Mike's XS?

Yes, the engine should start with the initial setup allowing you to then use a timing light to set the timing. Some possibilities would include that the coils are reversed, fouled spark plugs due to repeated starting attempts.

PAMCO 400E ignition trouble shoot, help!

Flagg, I'm here. Having a phone number for such a small company as mine would be cost prohibitive. The installation instructions are on the web site, www.xs400ignition.com . Here is the link from that site. http://xs400ignition.com/Installation400E.htm .Like many companies these days, the...

My Cafe Racer Build (and Re-Build)

We have sold a lot of the original PAMCO that use the stock mechanical advancer without a clearance problem. The E-Advance model rotor has the same height and diameter as the rotor on the earlier model. Also, the beta tester with the very first E-Advancer did not report a problem with clearance...

My Cafe Racer Build (and Re-Build)

Wolfe_11B, I have ordered some new plates that will be 2.5mm thick. I changed the 8-32 holes to 6-32 holes to provide more room for adjustment. I'll send you a new plate when they are delivered to me. Thanks for the feedback.

My Cafe Racer Build (and Re-Build)

Wolfe_11B, Glad you got it going. Lets hear about the problems you encountered here so we can all learn from your experience. I don't see where you could have a problem only associated with the TCI models as all of the TCI components are removed and no longer used, leaving the engine in the...

My Cafe Racer Build (and Re-Build)

You can use the green wire to the coil, but DO NOT use the sensor wiring as it is directly connected to the MCU. Your tach should be specifically compatible with an electronic ignition. If it worked with your TCI from the coil, then should be no problem. Be sure to observe the labels for the...

My Cafe Racer Build (and Re-Build)

If you set the ignition to the recommended initial position, the engine should start to enable you to set the timing and get the carbs half way there. It will probably take a lot of back and forth and trial and error but just be patient. The sensors are set initially to be 90 degrees apart, but...

My Cafe Racer Build (and Re-Build)

wolfe_11B, Your PAMCO XS400E-HD ignition is on its way to you. Please remember that the installation instructions are V 1.0. You are a pioneer. We have sold a ton of these systems to the Honda CBXXX twin market and the one thing that bubbles to the surface is that users are not aware of the...

New PAMCO electronic ignition on Mike's XS?

    A stock points system with a 4 Ohm coil and a 105 degree dwell will draw 14V/4Ohms = 3.5 A X 105/360 = 1 A X 2 coils = 2 Amps. The PAMCO with a 60 degree dwell will draw 13/4 = 3.25 A X 60/360 = .54 A X 2 coils = 1 Amp. I use 13 Volts for the PAMCO because there is a 1 Volt drop across the...

New PAMCO electronic ignition on Mike's XS?

OK. you can now select one of two XS400E's. The original XS400E at 4 to 5 Ohms coil or the very new XS400E-HD for 2.5 to 5 Ohms coil. The difference is that the HD model is in an aluminum enclosure with the transistors bolted to the case for heat dissipation. Standard PAMCO XS400E $189.95 Heavy...

New PAMCO electronic ignition on Mike's XS?

Yes, that is correct. The price point objective was less than $200 and that was achieved by using a plastic box and no heat sinks among other design features. There are not that many suitable coils for the XS400 that are less than 4 Ohms and we also wanted to encourage the use of stock coils to...

New PAMCO electronic ignition on Mike's XS?

BBS360, Those advance numbers are there to compensate for the unpredictability of setting points. Those numbers mean that a total advance of 36 to 40 degrees is acceptable between the range of 2700 to 3400 RPM. The PAMCO produces an advance of 30 + 10 = 40 degrees BTDC at 3400 RPM, so it is...

New PAMCO electronic ignition on Mike's XS?

xschris, The timing is set to 10 deg BTDC at idle (1200 RPM). The PAMCO E-Advancer then adds 30 degrees at full advance for a total of 10 + 30 = 40 Deg BTDC. Advance means Before Top Dead Center (BTDC). In advance of. Before. I have no idea where you got 10 deg ATDC. The curve in the above...

New PAMCO electronic ignition on Mike's XS?

xschris, The new PAMCO E-Advancer provides 30 degrees of advance that starts with the fixed idle advance of 10 degrees for a total of 40 degrees advance, which I believe is the same as you are referring to. Note: Below 200 RPM, the timing is retarded 10 degrees to TDC for easier starting...

New PAMCO electronic ignition on Mike's XS?

The advance is the same as the points advance curve with a retarded timing to TDC below 200 RPM for easier starting, especillay kick starting. It also does have the feature of not applying power to the coils when initially turned on, however any attempt to start the engine could leave a coil on...
