Okay, so I ordered a Shim from Boats.net, after much batting around do I need the thinner shim, or the wider shim, I went with the "No shim" On the diagrams for my bike, the 81, Yamaha, XS400SH, Under Clutch, Item 27 has two sizes associated with it. I went with the thinner part. one was .3 mil, the other .5 mil. Boats.net went and "superceded my desire for the thinner shim. Sent me the .5 mil. I did not feel good about this choice. As luck had it, I had ordered the right circlip for the clutch, when the shim didn't show up, I ordered it from boats. (I am not going to say I had one prior to removal of it initially, or not. I don't remember.) I Youtubed a video, so that others could see what might be wrong. otherwise the side by side you can see the gaps between the splines, and the photo with out the shim, where perfection was met. so the question still in my mind, is do I still need the .3mil shim? Next time I worry about the clutch, I will replace the plates, spring, circlip and the shim. Oil, and Filter again.
